A week end in Punta del Este, written by one of our students from Germany

After a perfect day with Margo, Roberto, Beki, Gabi and the horses,  me and my fellow students at the school, all from the US,  left Atlantida to visit Punta del Este.
The Bus to Punta normaly leaves from tres Cruzes in Montevideo. It costs about 150 Pesos and it takes 90 minutes. It´s always better to book your seats on the Bus because on the weekends they can get pretty full.
The same goes for the accomodation, but it´s really not a problem to find a Hostel or a cheep Hotel in Punta del Este during the low season.
Shortly after we arrived in Punta we found a Hostel named Trip Hostel  near the Bus terminal Maldonado. It costs 20 Dollars for one night, which isn´t really cheep for a hostel but for one or two nights it´s totally worth it. The atmosphere is relaxed and the people are really nice.
After we put our stuff in our room which by the way looked like a cabin in a really small boat, we left the hostel to get to know the city.
The beach in Punta is great but the water  was a little cold, even for the tough guys from Amerika.
We vistited the city in the Winter and beside the tourist season. And although the weather was great, it´s probably right to say that the city is a lot different in the summer.
But the view from the Rambla, the street right next to the beach is amazing any time of year.
But because we aready had a very eventfull day at the Campo we were all really tired and decided to find somewhere where we  could eat. That wasn´t very easy because Punta del Este is a tourist town and not very cheep. All the Restaurants we found were to expencive.
But after a little while we found one that suited our need of good food and low price.
After we ate we went straight back to our hostel and went to bed.
The next day after a good nights sleep only disturbed from the snorying of one of my fellow travlers, the breakfast, which is inclusive, was waiting for us. Fresh Coffee, bread, jam and of course Dulce de Leche.
After we stored our lugguage behind the reception, we went to look for a place where we could rent scooters for one day. That is really not that easy on a Sunday, the dia de los Santos but after a while we found Marino Sport.
We rented two scooters and a golf card. For one day a scooter costs around25 Dollars and the bigger vehicle between50 and 70 Dollars. If you have the time and the money it is worth it.
Our first Stopp was the munumento al Ahogado,a giant hand reaching out of the sand. Definitly a picture worth taking.
After that we went to a village right next to Punta called la Barra and it´s landmark is a really cool rolling bridge over the Arrayo Maldonado. The whole place has a great atmosphere and is a great place to relax and enjoy the view or watch the fisherman on the otherside of the river. But beacause we only had a few hours left we couldn´t spend a lot of time there.
To reach our next destination Casapueblo we had to drive back through the sity to the other side of Punta.
It takes a while to get there but noone who visits Uruguay should miss this Stopp. The House was build by the famous uruguayen artist Carlos Páez. The House is an artwork itself. To visit the house from the inside weh ad to pay 150 pesos. Disregarding the amazing house it contains an interesting art collection and a really nice Bar. The view on the atlantic ocean is amazing.
On our way back to Punta we tried to see sealions or even walls but we didn´t have any luck with that. But normally at this time of year there are a lot of big and interesting animals to see at the beaches of Punta del Este.
After that we catched our stuff from the hostel and returned the scooters and then we only had time to get a smal snack at Burgerking before we had to get on the Bus back to Montevideo.
If you make a reservation the Bus costs around 200 pesos. It took us a little longer to get back to Montevideo because there was a lot of traffic. We took the Bus at 7 and arrived in Montevideo at 10.

This weekend was definitly my best one since I arrived in Montevideo and I hope that there will come many more just like this one.

Thanks Marie, to share your experience with us.
